Early life – the beginning of an American Dream
In a world struck by divisiveness and fear of the future, Minneapolis can stand strong as a place of opportunity, life, and refuge for all people. Ward 9 needs a council member who can protect and promote that vision. From his early life fleeing war-torn Somalia to his current home in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood, Mohamed Farah is a leader who will do just that.
Farah’s awareness and concern for his community began at a very young age. As a child, he fled Somalia with his family to the largest refugee camp in the world, Dadaab, Kenya. Through hard work and an unrelenting vision for a better life, Mohamed and his family were able to relocate permanently to the United States. After a brief period in New York, the Farahs moved to Minneapolis in 1999.
